Current LIVE Fishing Report can be read anytime 24-7 at: http://www.noelgyger.ca/current-fishing-reports.htm

Commentary: Good runs of Steelhead are noted...plus good local Trout and Dolly Varden Char fishing. Early run of Chinook Salmon has started, mostly bound for the Kalum River. The earliest we ever caught one was April 5th.

Skeena River: Water is dirty from the Copper River. It is clear above the Zymoetz (Copper) River. The spring run Steelhead are in the river now. Plus Trout and Dolly Varden Char. Early Chinook (King) Salmon are coming in now. Catching Steelhead and Chinook on the same day is possible. Reg: all wild Steelhead everywhere in British Columbia are catch and release

Kalum River: Water in good shape. A good run of Steelhead are in the river now. Guiding started March 15th. I have reports of some good catches. The lower and upper end are in good shape. The water is coming up slowly. This is the condition we like. Fresh spring run Steelhead are in the river now mixed in with the fall and summer-runs from last year. Chinook (King) Salmon are coming in now. We have caught them in early April. Anytime now we should be able to catch Steelhead and Chinook in the same day. Wow is this fun or what!!

Lakelse River: The water is in good shape and fishing for Steelhead, and Trout is fair.

Zymoetz (Copper) River: Water is dirty from the snow melt off. The weather is fantastic! Facts: Last year we had a record run of Steelhead, lets hope at least we have another good run this year. The fly rods work extremely well in this river.

Kitimat River: Steelhead are coming in now. More and more anglers are hitting the river. Trout fishing is excellent!

Lakelse River: The water is in good shape and fishing for Steelhead, and Trout is fair.

Commentary: The extreme cold weather is gone, for now? It is warm enough to go fishing for Steelhead and Trout. If you go please be careful wading on the ice shelves and stay warm and safe.

Skeena River: Water is barely fishable. Lots of ice flow in the river . Some great Steelhead can still be had, plus some good Trout Fishing. Be careful walking on the ice near the edge of the river. Reg: all wild Steelhead everywhere in British Columbia are catch and release.

Kalum River: Both the lower and upper sections are in good shape. Watch for ice shelves in the deep pools. A good run of Steelhead is in the river now.

Lakelse River: The water is in good shape and fishing for Steelhead, Trout is fair.

Zymoetz (Copper) River: Water is full of floating ice, makes for tough fishing. Facts: Last year we had a record run of Steelhead, let’s hope at least we have another good run this year….so far so good.

Kalum River: Both the lower and upper sections are in fishable shape. The lake is still stained with a little colour. It has been cleaning a little bit each day. A good run of Steelhead is in the river now. I have reports of some good catches.

Lakelse River: The water is in good shape and fishing for Steelhead, Trout is fantastic.

Zymoetz (Copper) River: Water really come up and is borderline fishable now. Some would say NOT fishable. Too bad as the Steelhead fishing has been excellent. Facts: Last year we had a record run of Steelhead, let’s hope at least we have another good run this year. The fly rods work extremely well in this river.

Kitimat River: Fishing for Coho closes today October 31, 2011. All that is left to do now is fish for local Trout.

Lakes - Smithers: Lake fishing in the area is still very good. Fishing for rainbow trout and lake trout has been very productive.

Summary for Morice, Bulkley, Kispiox Rivers from Oscars Tackle Shop. Well fishing is not over yet but it does look more and more like Christmas out there. Fishing is still really good if you can deal with the colder weather. The water temperature has dropped a bit. We have reports of really nice fishing being caught on the Kispiox and on the Bulkley. Looking at the weather report we might get a little bit more snow & colder weather. Better go out there a few more times before it is all over for another year!

Fishing Report from Noel Gyger http: www.noelgyger.ca for Monday October 17, 2011 Smithers, Terrace, Kitimat and Prince Rupert

Current LIVE Fishing Report can be read anytime 24-7 at: http://www.noelgyger.ca/current-fishing-reports.htm

Skeena River: Water is in good shape and fishing for Steelhead and Coho is excellent. Reg: all wild Steelhead everywhere in British Columbia are catch and release. Reg: Coho fishing in the Skeena and Tribs will close on October 31st. Time to leave them alone and let them spawn in peace. Target Steelhead only…

Kalum River: Lower end is borderline fishable. The upper end has only about 4 inches of visibility in the water. The lake is colored. It is going to take quite awhile for the lake and river to totally clean out. Theory: Under these conditions the fish cannot tell the difference between debris to your terminal tackle. Fact: Coho and Steelhead are coming in now! Even in these tough conditions guides are still catching good numbers of Steelhead and Coho. I guess it is because, they really know their stuff.

Lakelse River: The water is dropping and very clean. Coho are coming in now but NOT in huge numbers. This is 'prime-time' for Coho but the fish just are not there in any good numbers.

Zymoetz (Copper) River: Water is in very good shape. Steelhead fishing is outstanding. I have many reports of good catches. Facts: Last year we had a record run of Steelhead, let’s hope at least we have another good run this year. The fly rods work extremely well in this river.

Kitimat River: Kitimat River has dropped and is in good shape. The main run is over, so anglers must target holding fish. The challenge will be to figure out the best times and tackle to catch them. Best time: Early mornings and evenings are usually the best times. Best tackle: spoons, hot shots, jigs, spinners, float-fishing or bottom-bouncing roe are some of the most effective methods but on any given day one, none or all may work. BTW - fly fishing works also. Coho fishing in this very low, clear water is a challenge. The expectations for the Kitimat River in the coming weeks will be 'Big Water' as we can expect our typical fall rain and 'Big Coho' as we expect to see more and more of what we locals call the 'Northerns'. We can also expect to see some Coho starting to change to their spawning colours but we can expect to see some silver that the Coho Salmon are known for.

Kasiks River: Is very low making it difficult to travel very far up river by jet boat. The rain we had today should bring up the water levels. Fair numbers of Coho are in the river now but most have been pushed to the very top pools due the heavy rains we had last week. This is the first river to go out of shape from rain but is the first river to come back into shape once the rain stops. Sometimes, when the rain stops you can see the river cleaning right in front of you. Tip: Don’t fish for them unless you see them rolling.

Exchamsiks River: Water in good shape but the Coho are very high up in the system. Just about impossible to reach them now with jet boat. Heli may be the only way now.

Exstew River: is clean Coho are coming in. How to: This is one of the best rivers in the world to fly fish for Coho...but first conditions must be perfect. This river is usually colored up and fishing is not that good. Timing is everything. Time to go now before the water colours up.

Douglas Channel: NOTICE: DFO closes recreational halibut fishery as of Sept. 5. The Douglas Channel is still producing some Coho but it is a situation of being in the right place at the right time. Most of the Coho will be migrating to their spawning rivers but can still be caught by the Saltwater anglers. We also received reports of Bottomfish still being caught further down the Douglas Channel. Weather conditions will start to be more of a factor but fishing for Coho and Bottomfish in the Douglas Channel can still be very productive. Dungeness Crab trapping this time of year is usually very good as the Crab are stacking up at the river/creek mouths expecting a feed of dead spawned out salmon.

Prince Rupert: Coho fishing winding up in the ocean and fall is upon us, there are still lots of opportunities to take advantage of the superb prawning and crabbing that is available right in the Prince Rupert Harbour. So don’t put that gear away just yet. While you wait for your traps to fill up try your hand at Trolling for the Residential Winter Chinook that frequent our waters.

Lakes - Smithers: Lake fishing in the area is still very good. Fishing for rainbow trout and lake trout has been very productive.

Morice River: The Morice is still high but clear. Fishing well!

Bulkley River: is still a bit high but the water is clear. Big fish are being caught. Lots of fun.

Kispiox River: Borderline fishable yesterday at the bottom. Better higher up. Some fish caught. Busy place....

Babine River: Babine is dropping bit by bit. Coho’s and Steelhead are being caught.

Babine Lake: Babine Lake is still producing lots of fish. The limit has been increased to 4 fish on the lake.
NOTE: Don’t forget that it is September 1st, and on most rivers you will now need your classified waters stamp and regardless if you are targeting them or not.

Kispiox River: The Kispiox is high but visibility is excellent. Lots of people fishing...

Babine River: Babine is dropping bit by bit. Cohos and Steelhead are being caught

Fishing Report from Noel Gyger http: www.noelgyger.ca for Monday October 3, 2011

Smithers, Terrace, Kitimat, Prince Rupert and Meziadin North

Current LIVE Fishing Report can be read anytime 24-7 at: http://www.noelgyger.ca/current-fishing-reports.htm

Skeena River: The river is fishing very good for Steelhead and Coho around the Terrace area. My friends and I fished on the Skeena yesterday for Steelhead and Coho. We did great, although our land-lose ratio was not very good. We went 6 for 16....means we hooked a total of 16 fish. Lost 10 and landed 6 of which 2 were Coho and 4 Steelhead. I'll try and cut a video but not sure if I got enough good footage. The weather today was excellent, mostly sunny and no wind. Water had a tint of colour but the fish did not seem to care and keep attacking our tackle. We also landed a bunch of Dolly Varden Char...or Bull Trout. It was just a wonderful day. Hope to do it again soon. Reg: all wild Steelhead everywhere in British Columbia are catch and release.

Kalum River: Lower end is still high but some would say borderline fishable now. The upper end is dropping and is borderline fishable. The lake is colored. It is going to take quite awhile for the lake and river to totally clean out. Theory: Under these conditions the fish cannot tell the difference between debris to your terminal tackle. Fact: Coho and Steelhead are coming in now! How to: This is a good river to float fish a Pink Worm or Gooey Bob.

Lakelse River: The water is dropping and very clean. Coho are coming in now but NOT in huge numbers. This is ''prime-time'' for Coho but the fish just are not there in any good numbers. Pinks are in good numbers and most are spawning everywhere. The Bears and the Birds are having a feast.

Zymoetz (Copper) River: Water is dropping and cleaning. Facts: Last year we had a record run of Steelhead, lets hope at least we have another good run this year. The fly rods work extremely well in this river.

Kitimat River: Kitimat River is still fishing well for Coho.

Kasiks, Exchamsiks and Exstew Rivers: are fishing well for Coho.

Lakes - Smithers: Lake fishing in the area is still very good. Fishing for rainbow trout and lake trout has been very productive.

Morice River: The Morice is high and dirty. It has snowed there today as well. 3 inches of snow striking to the ground.... If it warms up....

Bulkley River: The Bulkley River is ''fishing''. 2-3 feet of visibility. Fish tight to shore and light..... It is snowing at higher elevations so the river could come up again in a flash.... if it warms up.

Kispiox River: Borderline fishable at the bottom. Better higher up. Some fish caught. Busy place...

Babine River: Babine is dropping bit by bit. Cohos and Steelhead are being caught

Babine Lake: Babine Lake is still producing lots of fish. The limit has been increased to 4 fish on the lake.

Go here for LIVE Fishing Report http://www.noelgyger.ca/current-fishing-reports.htm

Skeena River: The whole river and dirty and really not fishable. Kalum River is dumping a whole bunch of mud into the Skeena. Reg: all wild Steelhead everywhere in British Columbia are catch and release. Good chance to catch both Steelhead and Coho (Silver) Salmon on the same day.

Kalum River: Lower end is really high an dirty. Lots of debris suspended in the water so fishing is difficult. Also new trees hanging up in the river everywhere. Theory: Under these conditions the fish cannot tell the difference between debris to your terminal tackle. Upper end is probably dirty also. The lake is dirty. It is going to take quite awhile for this river to clean out.

Zymoetz (Copper) River: Water is blown out, just too much rain. Lower end is Copper Colour. Facts: Last year we had a record run of Steelhead, lets hope at least we have another good run this year.

Morice River: The Morice is still in excellent shape and it is dropping. Again, some Steelheads are being caught on the Morice. Fishing is not very consistent. Good for a day or two than very poor.... Fishing should improve as water levels drop....

Bulkley River: The Bulkley above the Telkwa is still in good shape. Below the Telkwa visibility is 1-2 feet.... Lots of rain in the mountains..... Beware of a big grizzly bear between Telkwa and Smithers close to the ''dump''.

Kispiox River: The Kispiox is high again.... If the weather gods cooperate it should be fishing great in a day or two again.... Fishing was so good over the last few days.... Big fish.

Babine River: Babine is dropping bit by bit. Cohos and Steelhead are being caught.

Babine Lake: Babine Lake is still producing lots of fish. The limit has been increased to 4 fish on the lake.
